João Cancelo Creates History: Barcelona’s LaLiga Title Puts Him Ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham

Barcelona secured their 29th LaLiga title with a commanding 2-0 win over Real Madrid, marking consecutive league crowns under Hansi Flick. The victory extended their lead over rivals to 14 points, and if they win their final three matches, they will reach the 100-point mark for the season.

This triumph also etched João Cancelo’s name into the record books. The Portuguese defender became the first player in history to win league titles in four of Europe’s top five leagues – the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, and the Bundesliga. Previously, he had won the Premier League with Manchester City, Serie A with Juventus, and the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich. His LaLiga victory with Barcelona surpasses the achievements of stars like Cristiano Ronaldo (who won three different top-league titles) and David Beckham (who conquered four leagues but not all within the top five European leagues).

Cancelo, who had failed to win the Spanish top flight during his earlier loan spell at Barcelona, returned on a temporary deal from Al-Hilal in January to make history. The 31-year-old right-back played the full 90 minutes against Madrid and has been a key figure in Flick’s setup, making 13 league appearances this campaign.

His decorated career now includes league triumphs in England, Spain, Italy, and Germany – a feat that underscores his versatility and adaptability across Europe’s toughest competitions.
