San Antonio Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson has weighed in on the ejection of center Victor Wembanyama during Game 4 of the second-round NBA playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, which ended in a 109-114 loss (series tied 2-2).

“I just think that with the physicality he’s facing, at some point you have to defend yourself. There comes a moment when he needs protection, and if that doesn’t come, he’ll have to do it himself,” Johnson said during a press conference.
Early in the second quarter, Wembanyama committed a hard foul on Timberwolves big man Naz Reid, striking him in the face with an elbow. The play was reviewed and assessed as a Flagrant 2 foul, resulting in an automatic ejection.
