Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has confirmed he will remain at the helm of the Catalan giants, announcing his contract extension himself during a press conference on Tuesday.
“Oh, haven’t we announced it yet?” the 61-year-old former Germany boss joked when asked about his future. “I’m very grateful to the club for allowing me to coach here until 2028.”
Flick, who has just led Barcelona to their second La Liga title in two years, said he realized after his time in the city that he is “in the right place.” In two seasons, he has already won five trophies: two league titles, two Spanish Super Cups, and one Copa del Rey.

The announcement was hardly a surprise. Club president Joan Laporta had hinted at extending Flick’s deal shortly after his reelection in March, saying, “We all intend to renew the contract. Hansi is also on board.”
Now, Flick has set his sights on the Champions League. “Everyone dreams of it,” he said, recalling his 2020 triumph with Bayern Munich.
According to Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the new deal includes an option for an additional year until 2029, provided certain sporting goals are met. However, signing is not imminent, as Flick wants to focus on the season’s final stretch. Barcelona currently sits at 91 points and 91 goals, with three games left to potentially reach 100 points and 100 goals—matching records set by Tito Vilanova’s Barcelona and José Mourinho’s Real Madrid.
