American Darter Danny Baggish Suspended Over Betting Probe After Losing Infant Son to Cancer

American darts player Danny Baggish (43) has been provisionally suspended from all competitions amid an investigation into suspicious betting patterns, a fresh blow after the tragic loss of his 19-month-old son to cancer last year.

According to a report by The Sun on May 13, the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) issued the suspension following an investigation into abnormal betting activity on the number of “180s” in matches Baggish played during the MODUS Super Series. In darts, a “180” is the highest score possible in a single turn, achieved by hitting triple 20 three times.

The MODUS Super Series operates independently of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), though it regularly features well-known players with World Championship experience. Baggish, a Florida native, retains the right to appeal the suspension.

MODUS released an official statement saying, “We are fully cooperating with the DRA investigation. The integrity of the sport is a core value of the event,” adding that no further comments would be made on the ongoing matter.

Baggish himself addressed the situation via social media, stating, “I am fighting against the current allegations. I won’t go into detail right now, but I will not collapse based on assumptions.” He also thanked supporters, saying, “I have nothing to hide. Thank you for the concerns and messages.”

This is not the first match-fixing controversy in the darting world. In March 2024, Andy Jenkins was found guilty on 24 counts of match-fixing and sports betting-related offenses, receiving an 11-year suspension and ordered to pay £17,580 in costs. Jenkins had also previously competed in the MODUS Super Series.

Baggish, who held a PDC Tour Card from 2021 to 2022, has made three appearances at the World Championship at Alexandra Palace in North London. He also represented the United States at the 2022 World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt, Germany.

Off the oche, Baggish has endured immense personal grief. Last December, he lost his 19-month-old son to cancer. Just last month, after winning his MODUS Super Series debut, he posted a tribute to his late son, moving fans worldwide.
